Diversion

For the extension of a culvert under a road, Van Heck provided a 1000 mm siphon system.

Client Boskalis has to extend the culvert because the road will be widened and an additional separate cycling lane will be built that can also be used for agricultural traffic. To build this, the water which normally flows through the culvert, has to be diverted. Boskalis asked for an energy efficient and quiet solution, due to the houses very close by. A siphon system was an obvious choice.

Additional requirement

An additional requirement was that the water has to flow both ways, which would have meant placing two pumps. A siphon will do this, by using a road bridge, automatically as water always flows from the highest to the lowest point.

The siphon system is expected to be operational until the end of April.
